A Northeast Florida native and military veteran, Corey was interested in carpentry from a young age, and as a result, he began framing houses directly after graduating high school. After two years of hands-on construction experience, he enlisted with the United States Air Force where he was assigned as a combat engineer specializing in new construction and bare base military construction.
During his career with the Air Force, he was deployed overseas in support of operations in Central America and Southwest Asia. While serving in the military, Corey graduated with honors from both the United States Navy Builders School and the United States Air Force Structural Apprenticeship Program and earned a Structural Journeyman certification.
Corey joined the John Merrill Homes team in 2018. He worked previously for the U.S. State Department on a project to refurbish the American Embassy in Rome, Italy, which was the historic home of Queen Margherita, the first queen of Italy.
